Top 5 Graphic Design Trends for 2020

Graphic design trends come and go as tastes change and develop,
with 2019 being huge for bucking conventional trends and graphic design rules.
The coming year is set to be even bigger, carrying forward some trends that we
saw emerge in 2019, such as bold minimalism, collage style design and maxi
typography. Our own design
services
are always geared to take advantage of emerging trends, so what
about what to expect for 2020? Well, here are our predictions for the year
ahead!

Bold but simple typography

bold typography design trends

The use of bolder and tailormade design aesthetics being
brought to typography, this design element is set to become more unique and adventurous
than before. Thick typefaces are a favourite of designers, and of course the
people that get to see the finished product. A thick typeface is perfect for
websites, logos, posters… Although, less is usually more with this typography
style because it is much easier on the yet but also simple and sophisticated.

Metallic design elements

Metallic design elements were popular some time ago but our
attraction to the shiny stuff has never really gone away, has it? In the year
ahead we predict that you are going to see more copper, gold and bronze hues
popping up all over the place from packaging, social media, branding,
advertisements etc. if you can make something pop and sparkle, why make it dull
and one-dimensional?

Mixed media

Lots of designers combined photographs with illustrations in
2019, and this is almost certainly going to be carried forward well into 2020
and possibly beyond. If you can remember back to high school, you’ve probably
dabbled in this style yourself – perhaps writing speech bubbles on photographs
in your textbooks? Most people have doodled in this way at some point. This design
style is fun, quirky and has a very familiar feeling that we can all relate to.

Line art design trends

The graphic design world started to fall in love with line
art in 2019, so we fully expect this design style to gain even more traction in
2020. This design style consists of distinct curved or straight lines that are
usually placed against a plain backdrop. These lines come together to create an
image, object, text or a combination of all three Line art is especially
appealing when the line elements used begin to form unexpected shapes and paths.
When this style is implemented really well, it can be very unobtrusive,
pleasing to the eye, clean and helps to lead the eye to the primary subject in
the design.

Cyberpunk colour schemes

2020 is expected to feature brighter and bolder colours than
were shown previously in design, especially in logos and branding. Young,
trendy brands will be seen embracing more futuristic design aesthetics that
have bright and vibrant colours as their base. Inspired by the urbanism of
Japan, cyberpunk brings a kind of raw energy to graphic design that at its
heart is made up of sharp colours and bold lines to enliven the overall design.

Overall, 2020 is set to become rather exciting when it comes to the world of graphic design and design trends overall – whether it be in the arena of website design, logos or general branding. For more on this why not take a look at our other blog posts, and you can also get in touch with us here.
